iputils-ping software package provides Tools to test the reachability of network hosts, you can install in your Debian 8 (Jessie) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install iputils-ping
iputils-ping is installed in your system.
Make ensure the iputils-ping package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep iputils-ping *
You will get with iputils-ping package name, version, architecture and description in a table
